Standard Container
This container type is used for general purpose and is suitable for most types of cargo. It is used to handle general cargo whereby the cargo should not be over-length, over-width, over-height, over-weight, or in bulk. This type of container is also water resistant and is manufactured from high tensile steel. It is usually made of steel for sturdiness and ease of repair.
Open Top Container
Open top container is suitable for over-height cargo, heavy machinery and awkward cargo. It does not have a solid roof; instead it is covered with a removable, waterproof tarpaulin that can be secured with ropes. This way, it allows loading and unloading of cargoes to be done through the roof aperture.
Flat Rack Container
A flat rack consists of a flat bed with no sides. It is best used for heavy lift, over-length and/or over-height cargo. The first picture shows a 40′ flat rack with collapsible ends. Some types of 20′ flat racks have inserting boards on the rear end that can be removed from the side corners in order to cater for cargo length that is longer than the inside length of the container. It is now commonly used in transporting oversized items.
Reefer Container
Reefer containers keep perishable goods cold or frozen and are capable of maintaining a wide range of temperature for frozen, chilled or warm cargo. This type of container has a refrigeration unit whereby power is provided by a motor generator when the container is on the move.
